DECIMALS
A decimal number, or just decimal, is any number written in decimal sign , although it is more commonly used to refer to numbers that have a fractional part separated from the tenths part with a decimal separator (e.g. 11.25).
IT IS A VERY EASY THING TO LEARN! |
ADDING DECIMALS
To add decimals, follow these steps:
- Write down the numbers, one under the other, with the decimal points lined up.
- Put in zeros so the numbers have the same length (see below for why that is OK
- Then add using column addition, remembering to put the decimal point in the answer.

8.58
SUBTRACTING DECIMALS
To subtract decimals, follow these steps:
- Write down the two numbers, one under the other, with the decimal points lined up.
- Add zeros so the numbers have the same length.
- Then subtract normally, remembering to put the decimal point in the answer.

MULTIPLYING DECIMALS
Just follow these steps: Multiply normally, ignoring the decimal points. Then put the decimal point in the answer - it will have as many decimal places as the two original numbers combined.
Very creative of a explanation of decimals, if I scaled this 1-10 I would give you a 9.999.
